Quote(s)

1.    Why shouldn’t you have been spared? Why shouldn’t Jeff? Terminal illness at age twenty-four is a raw, ugly deal. Honestly, Allie, why the hell didn’t I get on a plane and hold my best friend’s hand while he died? Why did I send flowers to the funeral and write a check to the cancer society instead of coming and paying my respects in person? Thank about it, Allie. I did it to spare myself. And if you think I haven’t had a million moments like the one you’re having right now, you’re mistaken. We all have flaws, Allie. We all do things in the name of self-preservation. Maybe if I’d been there to share the burden that would have made a difference. Maybe not. None of us gets a do-over, so we’ll never know. We’re just here now, doing the best we can, and I’ve got to tell you, because I know it in my heart. No one would be more upset than Jeff to see you crying and beating yourself up. No one.

2.    A smile crossed my lips.

“Merry Christmas,” I whispered into Tim’s ear.

I felt merry.

Reading Experience

I like this story about how people are not letting go of someone they love when they passed. The emotions and the struggle that they have are real. Jeff is wise beyond his age. Hopefully both Tim and Allie are an item. Merry Christmas.
