Synopsis
|
Cristian Bianco has two things against
him-he's a police officer and he's a police officer in the 18th
District…meaning my dad is his boss. Growing up as the Commander's daughter
and having his magnifying glass focused on everything I did was more than I
could handle. Now, I'm out on my own, living by my
own rules. Well, mostly. The 'job' I created for myself has me in some hot
water and my exit strategy isn't exactly working out how I'd hoped. Which is why when my best friend bids

hours, the danger, the overtime and the fact you barely see one another. I’ve
seen the strain it can put on a relationship and I don’t want that for myself. 11.
You can be whoever you want to
be. I get that you’ve had a rough past and I suspect a rough go after
college, but if you keep pushing people who want to help you away, sooner or
later they’ll stop offering. 12.
One day you’ll understand when you’re
older. Men and boys pretend to be tough, but many times it’s just an act. When
they fall in love that’s when you see the real man. That’s when you know whether
you really have a beauty or a beast on your hands. 13.

I’m not sure I ever believed those four
words before today. I felt emotionally abandoned by my father the minute my
mom was buried. I didn’t lose one parent that day, but two. Or at least that’s
how I felt until this moment. 15.
