2025/138 | ROCHELLE PAIGE - "PUSH THE ENVELOPE"

SYNOPSIS

Alexa is just your average college junior, attending classes and piloting Mile High Club charter flights. Boys haven't been on her radar for a couple years after a disastrous breakup with her high school sweetheart. Her plans to focus on school hit a bit of a snag when she meets bad-boy Drake Bennett and he sets his sights on making her his own.

Drake transferred to Blythe College for the rugby team, not for a new assortment of college girls. He's sexy and cocky, and he attracts women like moths to a flame. When he meets Alexa, Drake knows he's met his match. She tries to resist him, but Drake isn't used to taking no for an answer.

READING EXPERIENCE

The writing style is elegant and well-mannered, despite the intense physical intimacy in the story — which honestly made for a great contrast. 😂 I admired Drake’s character at first, but the moment he got angry and accused Alexa of prostituting herself, my view of him changed. I understand that people fight, but the words he chose were unnecessarily harsh and impulsive. It felt like a major red flag — the kind that makes you wonder if things might escalate to something worse if he doesn’t get his way.

That scene really made me question Drake’s character. His possessiveness toward Alexa was intense, yet he did nothing when it came to Sasha? That felt inconsistent and unbelievable. I get that Sasha’s role was probably meant to serve the plot, but if this were real life, Drake’s behavior would definitely be cause for concern.

As for Alexa, I really loved her. She remained composed and well-mannered throughout, even when she was clearly frustrated and upset. And the Mile High Club business idea? Absolutely brilliant — she came up with it and turned it into something bold and unique. Honestly, it almost made me want to become a pilot just for the thrill of it. 😆 What I love most about her is her sense of priority. She flew to support her dream of getting a degree—not the other way around. That’s such a smart, grounded choice.

I also really appreciated the depiction of her father. A single dad who raised her so well and supported her unconditionally — it was heartwarming. And Aubrey? Gosh, what a best friend. The kind of friend who shows up the moment one needed a shoulder to lean on. Who wouldn’t want someone like that in their life? Everyone deserves an Aubrey in their life.

Overall, the story was enjoyable, though the male protagonist left me with mixed feelings. The female lead, however, along with the strong support system around her, really carried the emotional weight of the story.

My favorite quote from the book:

Promise me you’ll take your time getting to know him. Make sure you fit together before diving into a relationship.
