2025/164 | ROCHELLE PAIGE - "HIT THE WALL"

Let me start by saying that I didn’t enjoy the writing style. It often felt like the author was trying too hard—especially during conversations between Kaylie and Jackson. For example, Jackson says things like, “Just tell me what you’re thinking. What’s going on in that mind of yours?” Honestly, who talks like that in real life? Because of this, most of the dialogue came across as deliberate and forced rather than natural.

If Sasha isn’t the definition of drama, I don’t know who is. The whole argument scene felt like high school all over again. Have they not grown up at all?

The story emphasizes that messing around with half the college can come back to haunt you, as we see in Jackson’s case. It also shows the importance of having self-respect and setting boundaries in relationships. It’s a reminder that our choices—especially the reckless ones—can catch up with us, and it’s never too late to start choosing better.

There are a few values I did take away from the story. First, the importance of open and honest communication in a relationship. Jackson shows great patience with Kaylie, giving her space and time to open up on her own terms. I’m glad things worked out for them in the end. Second, I admire Kaylie’s dedication to dancing. She poured her heart into it, and the fact that she had no regrets—even if the outcome wasn’t guaranteed—is admirable. That kind of mindset, where the journey and effort matter more than the result, is something we could all learn from.

The story also sheds light on the toxic relationship between Kathleen and Kaylie. I could practically feel the suffocating pressure Kaylie must have felt growing up under Kathleen’s roof. I’m glad she found her independence after going to college. In contrast, I appreciated the strong support system Jackson had—his parents were not only present but made sure he knew his worth through both words and actions. That kind of family support is invaluable.

Overall, I did my best to finish the book—and I did it! (Pat on the back.)

My favorite quote from the book:

"Sharing is important if we’re going to be a team."
