DETAILS
Synopsis
Temporary. That one single word best
describes my life these last few years. I’m working at a temporary job until
I can finally break free. I’m my little brother’s temporary mother since our
mom doesn’t give a crap about either of us. And I’m that temporary girl all
the guys want to get with because I give it up so easily. According to the
rumors, at least. But now I’m the temporary girlfriend of
Drew Callahan, college football legend and all around golden guy. He’s
beautiful, sweet—and he’s hiding way more secrets than I am. He’s brought me
into this fake life where everyone seems to hate me. And everyone seems to
want something from him. The only thing he seems to want though is… Me. I don’t know what to believe anymore.
All I know is, I think Drew needs me. And I want to be there for him. Forever. |

Quote(s)
1.
I’m going to buy her off for
protection. 2.
There’s no room for romance in my life.
It’s so stupid, but I let guys use me because for that one fleeting moment,
when he’s focusing all of his attention on me and no one else, it feels good.
it helps me forget that no one really cares. The second it’s over, it’s
like I snap out of my mental fog and I feel cheap. Dirty. All those cliches
you read about in books and see on TV or movies, that’s me. 3.
Remember that great love and great
achievements involve great risk. – Dalai Lama 4.
She’s prettier because I’m the
one who put that glow in her eyes and the color in her cheeks. 5.
I wonder what it’s like, to be that
numb to such beautiful surroundings. Of course, I’m numb to the mundane that
surrounds me on a daily basis. Maybe we all move through life comfortably
numb. 6.
That realization fills me with sadness.
While I allow an endless, faceless stream of guys to touch me. I crave it
because for a brief moment, I feel like someone cares about me. The feeling
is always fleeting and I end up as empty as I was before. Sometimes more so. 7.
She’s beautiful, and therefore to be
wooed; she is woman, and therefore to be won. – William Shakespeare 8.
But I’m also afraid. He goes back and
forth. One minute open and charming and so irresistible he steals my breath. Then
the next he’s dark and withdrawn, quiet. It takes a lot of energy to spend
time with Drew but when he’s acting like this, I forget all the drama and
revel in just being with him. 9.
Love’s tendrils round the heart doth twine,
as round the oak doth cling the vine. – Ardelia Cotton Barton 10.
What lies behind us, and what lies
before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. – Ralph Waldo Emerson 11.
I told her I couldn’t, that I had to
watch Vanessa and she convinced me Vanessa would be fine. Dad was right
there. 12.
It has to do with Adele. And I think I know
what it is. 13.
Once I’m inside you, you’re mine. 14.
The course of true love never did run smoothly.
– William Shakespeare 15.
She was wrong. I knew what we did
wasn’t right, yet I couldn’t control myself, my urges, my responses to her. She
knew how to arouse me and I hated that. I hated what she turned me
into. Her sexual toy, a plaything to take out and fuck and jerk off and use
until I was spent and sick to my stomach. More than once after she left me, I
contemplated suicide. But I couldn’t do it. I was too scared, too afraid what
might happen if I lived after all. So I turned into a shell. A
robot going through the motions, living my life, doing what I was supposed to
and getting ahead just fine. Keeping everyone at a distance, embracing football
and nothing else. 16.
The minute we get back home, I’m
telling him he needs to go to a professional therapist. Get what happened to
him out of his mind once and for all. Not that he can ever let his past
experiences go for good, but he can at least talk to someone. Seek help so he
can better cope with everything. 17.
In the bits that he told me about the
day Vanessa died, I have a feeling Adele dragged him into the house and had
her way with him. So while they were fucking, Vanessa drowned. Brutal but the truth, I can
feel it. Hence that extra heaping dose of guilt he piles on himself. 18.
I was never playing either of you, you
must believe that. I love your father tremendously. And I … I love you too,
Andrew. Can’t a woman be in love with two men? There are so many qualities to
the both of you that are similar yet different. I wanted you both. 19.
I do realize I’m following in her footsteps
no matter how hard I try not to. Makes me wonder if we’re predestined to end
up like our parents anyway, regardless if we fight against it. |

Reading Experience
I can’t wait to read the next one! I
have to admit that I really can’t stomach the fact that Adele molested Drew
when he was not even fifteen! Female paedophiles do exist! I feel sorry for
Drew that this thing happened to him! I hope everything will be fine if his
dad ever finds out and I do hope that his dad will side with Drew. Gosh, no
child should ever encounter this! Besides, I, too, feel sorry for Fable and
Owen for having an irresponsible mother. I’m sure you guys will bloom in the
near future. You guys have been through a lot and these experiences will make
you guys stronger than ever. Overall, I’m glad they found each
other. Drew, don’t screw it up! Other than that, stop cursing! Anyway, get
ready to dig into the next book! |
