DETAILS

Synopsis

Every Halloween, Satan's Affair will come to you.

We travel the country, offering terrifying haunted houses, thrilling rides and the tastiest food. And with every passing town, I cleanse this world, one execution at a time.

I hide within the walls, casting my judgement for those that reek of evil, singing lullabies to their rotting souls.

Once you've been chosen, there's no escaping my henchmen—they cater to my every desire.

You can run and you can hide, but it only excites me.

Come.

Take a walk through my dollhouse, where your screams will blend and your cute little pleas will go unanswered.

But I can't promise it'll be over quickly...

Quote(s)

1.    It smells like rotten egg and brimstone.

2.    I shoo Mortis away, no longer needing him at the moment.

3.    “You’re really hurting my feelings, demon,” I say, announcing my arrival.

4.    He grabs either end of the axe and cracks it over his knee, snapping it in two like a twig.

5.    When you carry a demon in your soul, it rots you from the inside out.

6.    I don’t know all the sins that dirty a soul. The obvious rape or murdering someone for nothing else than one’s own gain or pleasure will taint a soul.

7.    Afterall, every crime begins with an innocent thought – a simple desire that’s nothing more than a kink or a what if. Until those desires evolve and become actions.

8.    Mommy and Daddy were members of the Saintly Baptist Church.

9.    It takes a powerful man to make a table of this size tremble. A table that fits all his children – all eighteen of them and counting.

10. Daddy said that I’m to gather all of the girls tonight and bring them to him for his nightly ritual. Where he feeds them God’s nectar. I said no and called him unholy.

His face grows red, and his nearly black eyes bulge from his head.

11. For whatever reason, they believe his lies. Even though I’ve only ever seen Daddy do evil things. Unholy things.

12. Funny how something so painful will heal and disappear like it didn’t nearly bring me to my knees.

13. I didn’t want to lead those young girls to what would certainly traumatize them. They’re new to the Church. Their parents joined, and were all too happy to pleasure Daddy. Do things to him that I’ve never read about in the Bible.

I didn’t want to see those girls, not much younger than me, end up as mothers.

14. I was Mommy’s first born. She had let it slip before that she was only eleven years old.

15. She snapped at me to never repeat that to anyone outside of the Church – not that I’m even allowed to leave the Church. She pinched my hand until I promised her, pure terror shining in her eyes.

16. The more I see, the more I want to run from this rotten place, where decay is soaked into the walls.

17. Flowers can’t survive in a place like this. I’ve already seen so many wilt beneath Daddy’s iron fist.

18. Not from fear, but from whatever drug is coursing through his bloodstream. His cheeks have been hollowed out from the foreign substances eating away at this body from the inside out.

19. Don’t enter the den of wolves and ask not to be bitten.

20. There’s no redemption for people like Gary. They never learn their lesson. They get a slap on the wrist and then go on with their lives, torturing women for the sake of inflating their self-worth. Truth is, they don’t have any worth, and they know that.

21. She is your girlfriend. But that doesn’t mean you have the right to do what you want to her body without her consent. Last time I checked, it’s not your body.

22. How pathetic. Raping and abusing women and when he’s abused in return, it’s one big pity party.

23. “I raped her,” he confesses on a pitiful cry. “She was my girlfriend! I didn’t think it was that big of a deal!”

24. But you can’t silence heartbreak. It’s loud and painful. Even after you grieve and heal, it lingers in the background, sliding back into your life just when you think you’ve overcome it.

25. Slowly, she regains her composure. Scrambling for her pieces and shoving them back inside her. Still broken, but at least they’re not lying at her feet anymore.

26. I’ll never know the exact moment she took her last breath. I’ll never know why she chose to kill herself rather than running away with me.

Or why death was more appealing than a life with me.

But what hurt most is knowing that I spent the entire night staring at my mother’s dead body and never even realized it.

27. That twelve-year-old girl birthed some more of Daddy’s babies within the next year.

28. It’s entire possible he might be punished for his father’s missing wallet. I can picture it now. a meaty finger pointed in the child’s face as he yells with rage, If you didn’t go to that stupid fair, my wallet wouldn’t be lost!

Momentarily, I feel awful. The father’s soul isn’t rotten and evil, though. He’s a strict father, but he loves his kid. That I can tell by the worry etched into the corners of his eyes as he walks away. His soul smells of a bonfire. Smoky, but not rotten.

He just doesn’t know how to love the right way. But he’ll learn one day, when he pushes his son too far away and learns to regret his actions.

29. Demons love angels. They always want what they can never have. They love to taint what’s pure. Like picking up a white bunny with hands covered in blood. Angels are used and discarded to the side when they’ve served their purpose.

30. So, let’s set our differences aside for the time being, kill these assholes together, and then you can try and fail to murder me after? Deal?

31. A single nod, guilt shining in his eyes. Not guilt over what he’s done to innocent souls, but only because he got caught and is now suffering the consequences.

32. It was by sheer luck that Satan’s Affair happened to be in town when I got out of the compound.

33. I open my mouth to snap back but realize fighting with him will only worsen his driving.

34. I don’t even remember what exactly she did wrong anymore – Daddy always had rules that contradicted each other.

A woman cannot take a man’s seed into her body unwed.

If you don’t drink God’s nectar, you will be damned to Hell for all eternity.

Don’t fuck without being married, but oh no, if you don’t suck on my cock, you’re the unholy one.

35. So I killed him.

36. How can you tell me I’m not seeing what I’m seeing, just because you can’t see it, too? Why do the shortsighted people get to claim what is and isn’t sane?

37. Shh. It’ll all be over soon, Dr. Rosie.

Shock! Did Sibel really kill Dr. Rosie?

Conclusion

The story is very interesting. The author knows how to write the feelings really well. About the struggles, the sadness, the isolation… The writing and the storyline really captured me. Definitely going to read more books from this author! Ohhh, and… I want to know more about Zade! How he becomes what he becomes!

Sibel is killing human with tainted soul. She thinks herself as a vigilante who does the society a favour. I initially thought this story has fantasy element since she can smell rotten soul. Guess I was wrong huh. Dr. Rosie came to a conclusion that she has mental illness. The question is does she? Did she really did kill those who has tainted souls? Or she came across the news from newspaper about trial proceedings? I mean, how she knows what she knows? I’m so curious!

Furthermore, the story of Mommy, bless her soul, it really breaks my heart. Sibel was so young and so sweet. All she wanted was to have Mommy by her side. I hate that Daddy controls his mistresses by using their children. Urgh! Besides, based on the story, Mommy knows what Daddy did was wrong, but she can’t defy him. Why? How come she was in the cult? Is it because of her parents? Or she was a runaway?

The most important thing that convey by this book is parents are so important in their children’s life. Mommy and Daddy shape who Sibel is today. At least, she knows what is right and wrong albeit twisted.

Question(s)

1.    How Sibel know which things that Daddy does is unholy? Who taught her to differentiate?

Γ  the Bible

2.    Since Daddy said he is the messenger, then why is his words contradict with the Bible?

3.    Can Sibel really smell rotten soul from the people?

4.    Why Mommy didn’t think of running away with Sibel?

5.    Why Sibel killed his father? On what occasion? Why?

6.    Is Dr. Rosie dead at the end of the story?

Three Most Important Concepts in This Book

1.    Cult is very dangerous!

2.    Parents are a big part of their children’s life.
