Quote(s)
1.
I had almost forgotten about this silly
hundred proposals thing. I’d hoped he’d forgotten as well. But now it looked like
he really did mean to torture me. One hundred days. One hundred different
ways to break my heart. 2.
‘Right, enough tears. Any man who makes
you cry is not worth it.’ 3.
Keep him close with your memories of
him, not by compromising who you are. 4.
‘Romance isn’t always about big
gestures though,’ Harry said. ‘Sometimes it’s the words the man finds or the
effort that he has gone to. It doesn’t have to be something expensive.’ 5.
Love can be found in the most unlikely
of places, you just have to look for it. 6.
It doesn’t need to be about romance,
just little heartfelt gestures. 7.
I watched with sheer joy as the sun
appeared and for a few moments it wasn’t the burning ball of heat in the sky
that you can never look directly at, but an orb of muted oranges and pinks,
like a light bulb that had just been switched on and was yet to reach its
full power. 8.
I don’t think a proposal has to be
expensive, but the amount of effort involved is clearly, in the eyes of the
woman anyway, directly proportional to how much the man loves them. 9.
Tell Harry you love him, that you’ve
always loved him and always will be in love with him. I bet you all the money
in the world that he says it right back. There has been no one for you since
he came into your life and if he doesn’t feel the same way at least you’ll
know, at least you’ll stop wondering and maybe, finally you can move on. 10.
It made me so happy to think of couples
getting engaged in these places and that in some small way we were helping
them to start their life together. 11.
I like you Suzie, and I don’t want to
see you getting hurt. Just… don’t confuse pity and kindness for love, because
it’s not that. If he wanted to be with you, he would be with you. 12.
I love history – the interesting
snippets, the gossip, the intrigue, the filth and the glamour. Who was
sleeping with who. Delving into the past is like reading a copy of Hello,
there was so much backstabbing, treason, murder and sordid affairs. 13.
And as for the opportunities that you
say are offered to me, yes there have been a few women that have, as you say “thrown
themselves” at me, but just because they are thrown doesn’t mean I catch
them. 14.
Sometimes you wait for your dreams to
come true, but sometimes the dream is just a fantasy, when in the real world
there are things or people who could make you happier than any of your
wildest dreams ever could. You should not wait any more, young Suzie. 15.
I think you’re wonderful. I think what
you are doing is shallow, there’s a big difference. These women obviously don’t
mean anything to you and I think you should pick one woman, one that makes
you happy, on that you actually care for and stick with her rather than
sampling all the delights the buffet has to offer. 16.
Life is for the living. 17.
It was incredible and right there, we
were the only people in the world to watch it from that position, touching
the past as the future rushed towards us in all its golden splendour. 18.
Oh Harry, no woman is going to walk
down the aisle with you and spend the rest of their life with you unless you
tell them you love them. You can show them with nice gestures and your
actions, I mean you’re full of them, you’re the kindest, most generous person
I know, but the woman needs to hear the words. 19.
‘I’d tell her, if she told me first.’ ‘When there’s absolutely no
risk of you being rejected, when the woman has already made her feelings known?’
something in his face said I had hit the nail right on the head. ‘It doesn’t
work like that. I know this is the twenty-first century, women are equal partners
in a relationship, but we still want to know that our men will fight for us,
be brave enough to declare their feelings. We want to know that the love our
man feels for us is an all-consuming, shout-it-from-the-rooftops kind of
love, not just an ‘I love you too’ kind.’ 20.
I’m trying to give myself some space
from my boyfriend for a few days. He’s driving me mad and it’s great to get
away to give yourself a bit of perspective. Do I really want to be with this
man for the rest of my life? If I miss him, then I guess the answer is yes. If
I enjoy myself more alone than when I’m with him, then it’s time he packed
his bags and left. 21.
I put my hand over his heart. ‘This is
beautiful. You’re kind, generous, smart, funny.’ I smiled. ‘Really funny. Protective,
supportive. Any woman would be lucky to have you. We all have issues and
baggage. Don’t doubt that what you have is a pretty incredible package.’ 22.
I know I shouldn’t be saying this considering
the line of business we’re in, but there’s really only one thing that gets
women excited about proposals. It isn’t the ring, the location, the fireworks
or flowers, it isn’t even the words the men find to ask the big question. It’s
the man they love wanting to spend the rest of their life with them. Because after
the proposal comes marriage, the happy ever after. And that is what’s
been missing from every single one of your proposals. You could have asked me
to marry you on the back seat of the number thirty-seven bus on a rainy day
sharing a bag of chips and I would have said yes. 23.
I didn’t kiss you last night because I was
drunk and horny. I kissed you because I love you, because I’ve always loved you.
Every single one of your proposals was perfect because it was you doing the
asking. Perfect apart from one tiny detail. The man I love, the man asking me
to marry him, doesn’t actually love me. 24.
But I can give all you would-be
proposers one piece of advice. Tell her you love her, tell her every day
until she knows it and believes it. Then tell her every day anyway. If you’re
incredibly lucky she’ll love you back. I wish every single one of you reading
this a very happy ever after. |

Conclusion
I understand why Harry doesn’t confess his
love to Suzie. He loves her too much and he’s afraid of losing her. Of
course, Suzie has the same feeling for Harry. This story tells us that
sometimes, you are just too afraid to admit the feelings that you are
actually passing the opportunities that you might get in return. So, when you
love someone, tell them. The answer or even the response is different story. At
least there is no more regret in your live. I love this concept. From this story, it is important to be
reminded to think before you say. People tend to remember things that are
hurtful to them more than the one that makes them happy. Harry said he wants
her only as a friend and she doesn’t look appealing to her even if she sleeps
on his bed naked. This causes them to Happily Ever After taking the long
route. See, he should have been careful of what he said. Otherwise, they may
not have to wait until one hundred and one proposal to be together. Last but not least, I agree with what
Suzie said. Proposal is about the person, not about the event. If the person
is right, how matter how small the gesture, “Yes” is still the answer to the
question. Lastly, I truly love the writing style
of the author. I loved the story. I thoroughly enjoy reading this. Like what
the author said, I wish every single one of you reading this a very happy
ever after. |
